I’m sure the following scenario has happened to any of you who is a sports fan at one point in your life – A big game is coming up on television that you wouldn’t miss for the world, that even the outbreak of nuclear war or Armageddon wouldn’t drag you away from the sofa for. Until, that is, your significant other tells you that they ‘have plans’ for that very day and time that the game is on, at which point you meekly surrender with a resigned sigh, and satisfy yourself with the hollow prospect of recording the game and watching it later.
Of course, from that point on follows tortuous hours of having to be someplace else while you’d rather be sat at home or in the pub watching the game, and at the same time desperately trying to avoid any hints or mentions of the score line or important happenings in the match, lest it ruin your appetite for watching the recording later. Then, to top it all off, before you know it the weekend is almost over and you’ve run out of time to watch the game. What’s a man to do? You can’t watch the whole game through, but you at least want to see any pertinent action from the match, and sitting there while repeatedly jabbing the fast forward button with your finger is a highly unsatisfactory state of affairs.
Enter CyberLink, and their new MagicSports software – An innovative application that will take a digital recording of any football (soccer to you US type) and baseball game, analyse the entire file as quickly as possible, and break it down into a few minutes of pertinent highlights for you, showing all of the important action from the game. Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Well, today we’ll be checking out MagicSports for ourselves, cutting through the hype to see whether the concept actually works as advertised.
